Attend the opening and the stimulating first Plenary Session, which sets the scene for CORE 2008, and get into the buzz of the conference during morning tea with the delegates. (Allows plenty of time afterwards for activities of your own choice)

Kings Park

This tour begins with “Getting to the Core of CORE!” – a chance to be part of the action while attending the stimulating first Plenary Session of the conference, which sets the scene for CORE 2008.

Following morning tea with delegates, visit some of the historic and well-known sites of our city on a drive through Perth and surrounds discovering attractions and highlights of our city. Lunch at scenic Kings Park will begin our afternoon, which includes a private guided tour of the Botanic Gardens and spectacular wildflowers in bloom at this time of the year. We have a chance to buy Aboriginal craft while enjoying the lookout views, and will visit Aspects of Kings Park, Perth’s showcase Fine Craft and Visual Art retail space, to talk with a featured artist, before returning to the city.

Our tour begins with a visit to one of Western Australia's leading tourist attractions - The Perth Mint. The Mint offers a unique combination of activities, exhibitions and demonstrations, enabling visitors to experience the astonishing allure of gold and whilst there, you have the opportunity to browse the gift shop for jewellery including Argyle pink diamonds and Broome pearls.

Following a Devonshire tea at the Mint we will drive through Perth and surrounds discovering the attractions and highlights of our city. A Taste of the Valley

Nestled along the Swan River at the foot of the Darling Ranges, lies the picturesque Swan Valley. This region is blessed with a combination of history, art, world-class wine, gourmet goodies and fresh produce. Leaving the city behind us we take a trip back in time through Guildford to discover old buildings and museums steeped in history. Once in the Swan Valley you’ll visit an Artist’s studio and Artist gallery followed by a trip to the oldest and most well known winery in the valley – Sandalford Estate. At Sandalford you will enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the wine-making process followed by lunch.

To conclude the day we will visit the Merrich Swan Valley Olive Farm for a tasting of their exclusive olive oil and oil products, followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea before heading back to the city for a rest prior to the Gala Dinner that evening.

Perth At Your Leisure

Ideas for independent post-conference activities for Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 September!

Are you feeling you may be ‘stranded’ if your partner travels to the North-west for a technical tour? Other accompanying partners may have the same thoughts! During the conference there will be opportunities to share ideas and make informal arrangements for the later days in the week. You might like to consider some of the following activities:

  • Enjoy an express train trip to Mandurah for lunch on the foreshore & visit to art centre
  • Dive down below and explore the city stations complex
  • Do an ‘Art Gallery Crawl’ (with self-guide map) on the City clipper
  • Jump on the train to Guildford and enjoy a walking tour (with self-guide map) of this historic village at your leisure
  • Cruise the Swan River to Fremantle
  • Visit The Perth Mint, if you missed it first time round!
  • Take the train to Fremantle for a history tour on the Fremantle Clipper
  • Take the ferry to South Perth for a day at the Perth Zoo with its renowned nocturnal house
  • Book a day trip to Rottnest Island from Perth Old Port (Barrack St jetty)
